Algebra
I - Instructor: Mary Hamilton
Master the
fundamental concepts of algebra. Learn life-long problem-solving
techniques through the use of standard algebraic procedures. Enjoy
the success facilitated by a review format curriculum. Establish
a firm foundation for higher math with an eye toward success on
the SAT and in college. The class will include working with real
numbers, variables, factoring, exponents, roots, graphing, coordinates,
solving equations, and inequalities. There will be assignments
each class period, occasional quizzes, weekly exams, and a comprehensive
final exam.
Text requirements:
Saxon Algebra 1, 3rd Edition. Saxon Publishers Inc., (Please be
sure to get the text, answer key, and test forms booklet. No Solutions
Manual needed.)
Algebra
II - Instructor: Mary Hamilton
Mastery is
the goal! God's creation is orderly and organized, and mathematics
is the language of science! Thought processes developed during
this course will aid the student in assimilating logical procedures
of problem-solving, even those problems that have nothing to do
with numbers! This course will include the study of functions,
graphs of functions, linear functions, quadratic functions, some
geometry, and fundamental trig ratios. Continue preparation for
success on the SAT and in college. There will be fundamental trig
ratios. There will be assignments each class period, occasional
quizzes, weekly exams, and a comprehensive final exam.
Text Requirements:
Saxon, John. Algebra 2, 2nd Edition. Saxon Publishers Inc., (Please
be sure to get the text, answer key, and test form booklet.)
Geometry
- Instructor: Mary Hamilton
Our world
is filled with geometric figures and we deal with them daily.
We begin to glimpse the beauty of the order of creation as we
understand the mathematics involved. Take the mystery out of geometry!
This class will include the study of points, lines, planes, angles,
triangles, polygons, circles and solid figures, and proofs; instruction
in the use of compass and protractors; use of formulas for calculating
perimeter, area and volume. Creative sue of flash cards facilitates
the memory and understanding of definitions, theorems, and postulates
necessary to create proofs. Students are well prepared for the
geometry section of the PSAT and SAT tests There will be assignments
each class period, occasional quizzes, chapter exams and a comprehensive
final exam.
