Be Ready for the First Day of Class
-
Bring the Summer Plan work in a folder with the total number of correctly work problems listed on the cover sheet. (The Summer Plan is described on back of the registration
form.)
-
Read the first four **lessons* and work the Practice Problems (not the 30 problems of the Problem Set).
-
Make, memorize, and bring flashcards to be checked (made from the "Pre-First Class Vocabulary" document).
-
Have your questions about the math Practice Problems ready.
-
Have your name on everything: spiral, binder, calculator (if applicable), flashcards, etc.
* In the Algebra 2 book the first four lessons are A, B, 1, and 2. Geometry students read 1-1 through 1-4.
** Advanced Math students read and re-work the examples for the first three lessons (instead of four).
Bring to the First Class:
-
Textbook: Alg.½ -3rd ed.; Alg.1-3rd ed.; Alg.2-2nd or 3rd ed.; Advanced Math-2nd ed. Call me if you want the number of someone selling a used text. I have the Geometry books for you to rent for $25 for the year. Please pick up the Geometry book ASAP.
-
Flashcards (3x5 cards) made from the “Pre-First Class Vocabulary” document. Make flashcards for all terms you do not already know. Bring blank cards to make new flashcards in class every week.
-
Summer Plan work in a folder.(Any problems worked as review during the summer.)
-
Spiral notebook for note taking. A scientific calculator for Alg.1, 2, Geom. & Adv. Math.
-
Two binders: one for current work and one to store returned homework, quizzes, and tests.
-
Pen, pencils, paper, compass, protractor, graph paper, and hi-liter.
Each Week:
Work the four Problem Sets taught in class. After Mom or Dad grades the Problem Set and Practice Problems, the student corrects each missed problem on a Corrections Page stapled to the front of that lesson.
Students get “overs” on the Problem Sets and the Practice Problems, meaning their grade reflects the total correct after all possible corrections are made. SHOW ALL WORK to get credit.
Pre-read the four new lessons to be taught and come ready to ask questions about any new or old problems that are troublesome. (Three per week for Adv. Math)
The student keeps all returned papers neatly organized in the storage binder.
